Fashion Bloggers Association of Zimbabwe Shoot

FBA ZIM Concept ShootOne of the things I am truly passionate about is expressing myself. It’s always something very close to my heart; being who I am and not confirming to what society expects of me. Even as a blogger, I am constantly reminded I have to conform to a certain aesthetic so that I am more trendy or more out there! But that’s just not who I am, it’s not what Signature Toscie was built upon. I might sound like I am repeating myself, but staying true to yourself is the core essence of this blog. I would like to formally introduce to you Fashion Bloggers Association of Zimbabwe (FBA ZIM), a digital platform created to cater for Zimbabwe’s flourishing Fashion Bloggers in and beyond Zimbabwe’s borders. The concept came to me as a drive and a frustration that our hard work was truly going unnoticed. Just to be noticed as a Fashion Blogger, I had to go through leaps and bounds that left me broke, frustrated and often times mentally exhausted just from mapping my way through.

By meeting other creatives I noticed how hard and more efficient they worked and collaborated together. Take for example photographers, musicians, graphic designers and artisans in Zimbabwe’s Creative Industry always find amazing ways to work together. This is one of the reasons that pushed my frustration; that I did not know my fellow Fashion Bloggers! If I did know a blogger, it was usually a tech blogger, finance blogger or gossip columnist and that was it! So, that’s how FBA ZIM came about; to bring together fashion bloggers under one platform and to bridge the gap between bloggers and brands in Zimbabwe. Since its inception in 2014, FBA ZIM has gone onto officiate its first Blogger Meet n’ Greet, Collaborated with Edgars Zimbabwe for their News Day Column and has embarked on the FBA ZIM Concept Shoot so that bloggers find a space to work together and curate their different style aesthetics. The idea is to continue to fuel a passion and find creative ways to network with other fashion bloggers.

The 1st FBA ZIM Concept Shoot highlighted 4 bloggers and 4 local brands, who were kind enough to back up our idea and highlight their Proudly Zimbabwean brands on our blogs. The 4 beautiful bloggers were myself, Sharron Mungazi of Deffinatly Shaz, Alexandra Chiedza Mebe of Persuasion Inc ZW and Tatenda Robin Chaibva of Concrete Jungle NGOSIKADZI. Each of us as bloggers’ brought a different look and style to the shoot that highlighted our blogs and our readers. From the choice of make up to the selection in clothing, each individual found room to stay true to themselves and what they believed in as a Zimbabwean Fashion Blogger. Our make-up was done by the team at Chic Street Studio Newlands, using Black Opal Cosmetics Zimbabwe. Clothing was supplied by Jenika Shah of Moi Amara (to be featured in an upcoming post) and photography by Josh Mushauri of Mush Visuals.

Now with this kind of platform in place, we plan to continue to grow in our numbers and create more projects and initiatives that favour the Zimbabwean fashion industry. FBA ZIM aims to not only focus on Fashion, but Beauty, Travel, Food and Lifestyle; as the term Fashion transcends into style, mannerism, popular trends and culture.
